Superior Judges & Judges

A judging panel, including a Superior Judge, will assess each performance and submit a completed score sheet.  Additional training is required for Superior Judges.

For all meets, at least one judge must serve as the Superior Judge.  For dual-sided meets with two panels of officials, one of the Superior Judges will also serve as the Meet Referee.

Tabulators

These officials are used to tabulate the results from the score sheets.  Trained officials are essential to correctly assess any violations and use the correct method of tabulation as outlined in the MSHSL rules book.  The MSHSL requires use of the electronic Microsoft Excel tabulation program. A computer, printer, and copier must be available.

Kick Counter/Timers (KCTs)

All single-sided meets regardless of dance style (jazz or kick) require two kick counter/timers.  All dual-sided meets regardless of dance style (jazz or kick) require four kick counter/timers. KCTs must time each routine, check for rules violations and count the number of performers for each routine.

Host schools may also provide their own KCTs, however they must have been trained prior to the meet.

JAM recommends the following officials based on the type of meet:

Dual Meets

• 2 Judges
• 2 Kick Counter/Timers

Conference Meets

• 5 Judges (7 for Conference Championships)
• 1 Tabulator (2 Tabulators for Conference Championships)
• 2 Kick Counter/Timers

Small Invitationals

• 5 Judges
• 1 Tabulator
• 2 Kick Counter/Timers

Large Invitationals

• 5-7 Judges
• 1 Tabulator
• 2 Kick Counter/Timers

Dual-Sided Large Invitationals

• 10 Judges
• 2 Tabulators
• 4 Kick Counter/Timers

Section Meets

• 7-8 Judges
• 2 Tabulators
• 2 Kick Counter/Timers

JAM also recommends that meets with more than 40 routines use two panels of judges.  This can be accomplished by a dual-sided meet with two panels of judges.

The JAM Scheduling Team will review your request and may also offer suggestions for number of personnel.
